The idea of self-service laundries was born in the early 1950s in the United States as a basic neighborhood service, while in the 1970s these laundries spread with varying trends and intensity in Western Europe and the rest of the world.
It is estimated that there are now more than 30,000 self-service laundries in the United States and tens of thousands of such laundries in Western Europe. Despite the fact that 90% of households there have washing machines – this is a service that people in the US and Europe use on a daily basis, due to the quality of the laundry and the savings that come from washing in self-service laundries.
